If you have pets and you love them to pieces, then I’m
sure you’ll wish you could inhabit the world created by Tone Almhjell in her
debut novel called “The Twistrose Key”.
“The Twistrose Key” is the story of Lin, who seems just
like any other young girl. However, in
the land of Sylver, that magical place inhabited by animals who were once
someone’s beloved pet, or tamed by a little boy or girl, Lin is someone very
special. She is a Twistrose, a child
from the real world with the special ability to save Sylver’s inhabitants from
threats of destruction. As the latest
Twistrose, Lin must save the Winter Prince in order to save Sylver … AND get
back home to her real world.
The best part about “The Twistrose Key” is the concept of
Sylver, the world where former pets and wild animals that have been tamed go to
after they die. It’s a world where
these creatures develop human abilities, like walking on two legs and talking
--- I’m sure every pet lover wishes his or her pet can act that way.
Overall, while “The Twistrose Key” is not without its
flaws (I found myself distracted while reading some parts of it), it remains an
interesting read. It is a wonderful,
magical ode to the friendship that exists between children and animals.
