EMILY McKAY’S ‘THE TYCOON’S TEMPORARY BABY”: WHY THIS BILLIONAIRE WITH A BABY IS A DEADLY WEAPON

RATING GUIDE:

5 – A keeper!
4 – Very good
3 –  Passable
2 –  I’d rather read a telephone book
1 – An absolute bomb.  Read at your own risk!

I don’t really enjoy reading about women who sit idly by and wait for their Knight in Shining Armor to come along and save them from their problems.  I prefer reading about strong female characters who are hard-working, outspoken and can hold their own in any situation.  Wendy, the heroine in Emily McKay’s The Tycoon’s Temporary Baby, is one such character.  Given her impressive family background --- she comes from a family of wealthy oil tycoons and influential politicians --- Wendy could easily have chosen to lead the life of a pretty useless party girl/socialite.  Instead, Wendy works as an executive assistant to Jonathon, her no-nonsense, workaholic boss, who also happens to own a highly successful company engaged in the manufacture of smart grid meters.

Wendy loves her job and is actually very successful at it, but the sudden death of her cousin has saddled Wendy with new responsibilities.  She now has to take care of her niece.  Wendy decides to resign and move back to her family’s hometown so she can take care of the baby, but Jonathon refuses.  He just can’t let his best executive assistant walk away just like that.  Wendy’s highly conservative family won’t tolerate having her raise a child alone, so Jonathon, ever the businessman, offers a practical, win-win solution:  A marriage of convenience.  It’s an offer that Wendy reluctantly accepts, only to find out later on that it’s the best business and personal decision she’s ever made in her entire life.

From the moment that Wendy accidentally lands in Jonathon’s arms, to Wendy’s first taste of Jonathon’s lips, Jonathon’s first glimpse of Wendy’s Teenage Mutant Teenage Turtle undies, the unresolved sexual tension is so thick, it’s to be expected that they’d soon be having hot, kinky sex … right on top of the executive desk (but of course!).

As a hero, Jonathon is just adorable.  It’s actually quite hilarious, the way he tries to gruffly cover up his true character.  He tells Wendy not to think of him as a hero, that he’s only helping her out for business purposes … and yet, as one gets into the story, one realizes that he’s actually a man every woman has probably fantasized about at one point in her life.  A man who seems prickly at first, but actually has a very big heart and a strong set of principles.  A good-looking, financially stable man with a good heart, character and the ability to change diapers and lull a noisy baby into silence … what woman wouldn’t fall for that?

While Tycoon’s Temporary Baby isn’t exactly sweetness and fluff, there are enough sexy-kilig moments here for readers to enjoy.  The book (especially the last chapter) provides such a drool-worthy image of Jonathon that female readers just might end up wanting their very own Executive Hot Papa.

RATING:  3.5
